AMK-lehti / UAS Journal issue 2/2024 is themed The Future 2034. In our theme issue, we seek answers to the following questions:
- What will the future of your industry look like in 2034 in the light of research data?
- What needs to be considered and how, to ensure coping with future challenges and taking advantage of opportunities in your field?
- How should RDI activities, different tools and the professional skills of teachers develop to ensure the up-to-date competence of different actors in the future?
The following questions may help you in thinking and generating ideas:
- What do trends, signals and/or different forecasting methods predict for your industry?
- How do companies ensure their ability to operate in the future as well?
- How has the use of artificial intelligence changed?
- How will people be led in 2034?
- What kinds of methods have been used to maintain occupational well-being?
- What will entrepreneurship be like in 2034?
- How has digital business been shaped?
- How are education and curricula developed and in which cycle?
- How are R&D projects and working life cooperation integrated into teaching, what kind of interfaces will be seen in 2034?
Expert articles from both universities of applied sciences and beyond are desired for the theme issue. In addition to articles, the texts offered can also be informal reviews, speeches, interviews, expert texts commenting on future themes, and examples of universities of applied sciences’ cooperation with various actors. Audiovisual content can also be offered to the theme issue.
The maximum length for an expert article is 10,000 characters, for a review 4,000 characters and for informal texts 3,000 characters (including punctuation marks). More detailed instructions for authors can be found at https://uasjournal.fi/in-english/instructions-for-writers/. Please familiarize yourself with them carefully. We encourage author assemblies that also include representatives of working life and/or students. You can write in Finnish, Swedish or English.
AMK-lehti / UAS Journal regularly receives more article offers than can be published. Usually, about half will be published, with the number of articles being 12–15/issue. Therefore, in the first step, we ask the authors for an abstract (max. 200 words, as a Word file) and based on them we will create the whole of the magazine. After that, we will ask those selected to submit the entire text (note the instruction lengths, as a Word file) and picture suggestions. The editors comment on the manuscript and, if necessary, remind of the instructions, the authors finalize the articles. A more detailed schedule is presented below.

Schedule 2/2024:
- Article proposals must be sent to theme editors in the form of an abstract (max 200 words, as a Word file) to heli.bergstrom[at]xamk.fi no later than January 28, 2024.
- All responsible authors who submitted an abstract will be sent a response and feedback on the abstract no later than February 4, 2024.
- Article manuscripts and picture proposals must be sent to theme editors at heli.bergstrom[at]xamk.fi no later than March 10, 2024.
- Feedback on the article will be sent to the responsible author no later than March 24, 2024.
- The finished article must be sent to the editors at heli.bergstrom[at]xamk.fi no later than April 14, 2024.
- The theme issue will be published at week 21/2024.
