Welcome to contribute to the UAS Journal issue 4/2025 with the theme
Twin Transition – Digital and AI based solutions for green transition and responsibility.
The green transition refers to societal transition driven by a shift away from fossil energy sources towards clean energy solutions. Green transition affects all aspects of society’s activities, such as industry, energy production, food production, mobility and biodiversity protection.
Digitalization, in this context, refers to such information technology solutions, which strengthen green transition. Green transition and digitalization are both key concepts when aiming at sustainable future. They are also interlinked, for example, through data collection and analytics, energy efficiency, transportation systems, and renewable energy integration.
EU’s Green Deal aims for climate neutrality in Europe by 2050. EU has also named this decade as the Digital Decade. This transition, called the twin transition, creates new professional competences needed, which UAS must respond to. There are also tensions associated with the twin transition. For example, the increased use of digital technology increases electronic waste and its environmental impact.
We are looking for articles that could address the following topics:
- Twin transition in education
- Developing the content of vocational teacher education from a twin transition perspective
- Ethical problems of twin transition, such as increased energy consumption required by AI
- Cooperation between UAS and working life from the perspective of twin transition
- Sustainability reporting of UAS
- Technological solutions as part of the carbon neutrality objectives of UAS
- RDI projects to strengthen the twin transition
Submissions can be research-based, experiential, or presenting practical solutions.
We welcome expert articles from both within and outside universities of applied sciences. In addition to standard articles, submissions can include more informal reviews, statements, interviews, expert texts commenting on future themes, and examples of collaboration between universities of applied sciences and various actors. Audiovisual content can also be submitted.
The maximum length for expert articles is 10,000 characters, for reviews 4,000 characters, and for more informal texts 3,000 characters (including spaces). Detailed writing guidelines can be found at Instructions for authors – UAS Journal. Please review them carefully. We encourage writing teams that include representatives from both working life and/or students. Submissions can be in Finnish, Swedish, or English.
UAS Journal regularly receives more article proposals than can be published. Typically, about half are published, with the number of articles being 12–15 per issue. Therefore, we ask writers to first submit an abstract (max. 200 words, in a Word document) based on which we will create the overall content of the journal.
After that, we will request the full text (note the length guidelines, in a Word document) and image suggestions from those selected. Editors will comment on the manuscript and remind authors of the guidelines if necessary. Authors will finalize the articles. The detailed schedule is below.
