What are the most topical issues in Universities of Applied Sciences right now?
UAS Journal invites authors to submit articles for the first issue of 2027, 1/2027: Current Topics.
Universities of Applied Sciences engage in a wide range of activities responding to the changing needs of working life and society. Research, development and innovation (RDI) activities generate new solutions, strengthen expertise and contribute to building a sustainable future together with workplaces, businesses, the public sector and other partners.
In this thematic issue on Current Topics, we want to highlight phenomena, perspectives and solutions that are particularly relevant to Universities of Applied Sciences and their partners at this time.
What would you like to write about?
We are looking for articles that explore topical issues, present new operating models, share results from research and development activities, or stimulate discussion about the role of higher education institutions in a changing operating environment.
Topics may relate, for example, to education, renewing and developing competencies, research, development and innovation activities, cooperation with working life, sustainable development, digitalisation, the societal impact of higher education institutions, ethics, or responsibility.
Other current topics are also welcome. What matters most is that the article highlights the expertise, experiences, results, or new initiatives of Universities of Applied Sciences and offers insights that can also benefit other professionals and organisations in the field.
Join the discussion!
We welcome contributions from experts, researchers, teachers, RDI professionals and partners of Universities of Applied Sciences. We particularly value concrete examples, research-based perspectives and experiences that others can learn from and apply in their own activities.

Looking ahead to future thematic issues
The forthcoming issues 2–4/2027 of UAS Journal will focus on the following themes:
- The Many Forms of Entrepreneurship in Universities of Applied Sciences
- The Future of Work and Competencies 2035
- International Finland and Global Talent
If your article focuses specifically on one of these themes, you may consider submitting it for the relevant thematic issue. More detailed schedules and author guidelines for these issues will be announced separately on the journal’s website.
The maximum length of an expert article is 10,000 characters, a review article 4,000 characters, and more informal contributions approximately 3,000 characters, including spaces and punctuation. Detailed author guidelines are available in the UAS Journal author guidelines. We encourage authors to familiarise themselves carefully with the guidelines.
We also encourage co-authorship involving representatives from working life and/or students.
UAS Journal regularly receives more article proposals than can be published. Typically, approximately half of the proposed articles are published, with each issue including 12–15 articles. For this reason, authors are first asked to submit an abstract of no more than 200 words. Based on the abstracts, the editors will compile the overall content of the issue.
Authors whose proposals are selected will then be invited to submit the full manuscript and suggestions for illustrations. The editors will provide comments on the manuscripts, after which authors will have approximately two weeks to make any necessary revisions. The detailed schedule is provided below.
