According to FINEEC’s report (2023), the strengths of teaching and guidance in Finnish higher education institutions include diverse methods and assessment practices that support learning. Stronger involvement of representatives of working life in curriculum work and more systematic use of feedback were mentioned as development targets. What’s up with higher education pedagogy 2025?
The theme of UAS Journal issue 2/2025 is Higher Education Pedagogy. In our theme issue, we seek answers to the following questions, among others:
- What does the future of higher education pedagogy look like in light of research and development data?
- How can higher education institutions use pedagogy to ensure coping with future challenges and utilising opportunities?
- How do teaching, learning, research or development and innovation combine in higher education pedagogy now and in the future?
Also the following questions may help you:
- What kind of needs do trends, signals or different foresight methods predict for higher education pedagogy?
- How are companies, working life and business life involved in creating and ensuring the quality of higher education pedagogy from the perspective of working life?
- How will the utilisation of artificial intelligence change the pedagogy of higher education institutions?
- How will higher education institutions study, learn, teach and evaluate in 2035?
- How can higher education pedagogical actions affect the well-being of students, teachers and/or communities?
- How are higher education curricula developed and how is pedagogy steered in this work?
The theme issue welcomes expert articles from both universities of applied sciences and others. In addition to articles, the texts offered can be free-form reviews, speeches, interviews, expert texts commenting on future themes and examples of cooperation between higher education institutions and various actors. The number can also provide audiovisual content.
The maximum length of an expert article is 10,000 characters, that of a review 4,000 characters and that of more free-form texts 3,000 characters (incl. punctuation). Detailed writing instructions can be found at Instructions for authors – UAS Journal. Please read them carefully. We encourage writer ensembles that also include working life or student representation. You can write in Finnish, Swedish or English.
UAS Journal regularly receives more article offers than can be published. Normally, about half of the articles are selected for publication, and 12–15 articles are published in each issue. For this reason, in the first stage, we ask the authors for an abstract (max. 200 words, as a Word file) and use them to create a magazine as a whole. After that, we ask the selected applicants for the full text (note the guide lengths, as a Word file) and image suggestions. The editors comment on the manuscript and, if necessary, remind of the instructions. The authors finalize the articles. The exact schedule is below.
